Hi There,
Finally, the month of January for 2022 is over!!! I felt like this January was faster than the others in the past years, but I heard people say that this one was equally a journey of forty days and forty nights like the others. Well, whatever your position is about the month of January, it’s all a thing of the past as the month is finally over.
Welcome to the month of February; the month when love and loving is celebrated like none other and of course, my birth month. Yay!!!! What better time to discuss on the subject “Teams” than now? All through the month of February, we would discuss Team and everything there is to know about Teams. Organizations function better with teams; the efficiency of an organization is dependent on the efficiency of its teams; hence, recruiters seek to find out the strengths and weaknesses as well as how good a team player a candidate is before hiring.
A team can be defined as two or more workers operating in a coordinated unit to accomplish a specific task or goal. A team may also be created to identify or solve a specific problem. As I earlier mentioned about strengths and weaknesses, building a team has to consist of individuals with different strengths and weaknesses so as to leverage on each other to achieve greater results in task or goal. As an employer, you might just be wondering how to go about forming teams and as a n employee, you might just be asking how teams are formed. Well, let’s take a quick dive to the stages of forming a team below:
- Forming: This stage typically involves individuals being introduced to one another and they try to figure out what the social dynamic is.
- Storming: After the forming step, storming comes next. As the name implies, individuals may start to become volatile as people will start to express their perspectives, ideologies, dogmas and so on. This is the moment when goals and objectives start to develop and at this stage, there is no formal leader.
- Norming: At this point, the team begins to stabilize. Team members have roles according to their strengths and weaknesses and begin to solidify and the sense of unity grows. An identified leader also emerges.
- Performing: This is the part where the team starts to achieve its full potentials. They know each others strengths and weaknesses and they start to use their gifs. At this point, the team is focusing on solely their assigned tasks and there is a whole lot more harmony.
- Adjourning: The team is disbanded with the completion of tasks. Team members may be reassigned to other teams. This stage does not occur if the original team did not have a completion date.
As it is often said, if you want to travel fast, travel alone but if you want to travel far, travel with people. The best of your potentials is often unleashed when we work in teams.
